With your red, red lips
On your white, white face
And your twisted smile
Gone down a trace

And your father's money
And your mother's taste
And your sister's wardrobe
All cinched in at the waist

What does it matter to me
Now that you vanished across the sea?

With your dancing mind
And your sparkling wit
And your literary connections
That you care for not one fig

With your jewelry dripping
Off your (...) is strange
But I know you're never
Going to change your ways

What does it matter to me
Now that you vanished across the sea? Yeah

A pearl in the ocean so blue
That's what I think of when I dream about you

With your red, red lips
On your poor suckling skin
And your cocktail dresses
Made for posing in

And your father's money
And your mother's grace
You always want to have it
Your very, very own way

You're never going to change - yes
You're never going to change your ways
You're never going to change, oh
You're never going to change, na

You're never going to change

TrackTalk

Dave starts playing this chord sequence, and I had two lines that I had written the night before as I was going to bed. I was seeing this image in my mind of this girl with very white skin painting her face, and I just wrote it in my book. Dave started playing this descending chord sequence, and I started singing these lines, and we made the song up on the spur of the moment. We did it in like two takes. That sort of thing is fun...
