One, two
One, two, three
Don't get angry with me
I never caused you no pain
I won't be angry with you
But I can't see straight - yeah
It hasn't rained for a month
The river's run dry
We haven't made love
And I want to know why
Why you angry with me?
Why you angry?
Please just forget about me
Cancel out my name
Please never write to me
I love you just the same
I hear a melody
Ringing in my brain
Just keep the memories
Don't have to be ashamed
Don't get angry with me
I'm in a desperate state
I'm not angry with you
Don't you spit in my face
The wolf's at the door
With the teeth and the claws
My mouth's getting sore
I can't take anymore
Why you angry with me?
Why you angry?
Voices keep echoing
Calling out my name
Hear the rain keep beating
On my window pane
I hear a melody
Ringing in my brain
You can keep the memories
Don't have to be ashamed
Don't get angry with me
(Angry)
(Angry)
Yeah - yeah (Angry)
Don't be angry with me - if we go separate ways
(Angry) Yeah
Don't be angry with me - let's go out in a blaze
Angry, yeah
(Don't be angry with me) Don't you spit in my face
(Angry) Oh
Don't get angry with me - don't get, don't get
(Angry)
(Don't be angry with me) I'm still taking the pills
And I'm off to Brazil (Angry)
(Don't be angry with me) Yeah
Please (Angry)
Don't be angry with me - come on
No, no, no (Angry)
(Don't be angry with me) No - no, no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah
TrackTalk
In Jamaica we started... we wrote Angry
actually. Mick had it - the thing - ready to go. But it's where
we kind of put the track together, along with many others. But
it was the first one to stick out and I said Bom!
- Keith Richards,
September 2023
I was in the Caribbean, I was just on my own and I just started
playing it, just that riff... I had it in my head before I was
playing it on the guitar. And then I was playing it to a drum
machine, you know... just a real simple beat, boom-bah.
Almost the same beat as what we've got - I mean Steve plays it
obviously more interesting (laughs). But it's the same idea. And
then I brought it to - Keith and I went to Jamaica with Steve
and Matt and we ran it through and Keith said Oh I love it
and he put his own thing on it, you know. I mean it's a pretty -
that was one really easy to come together. And those ones
sometimes feel very good when they come together that quickly
and everyone falls in on their parts. And then I had to work on
the vocals, how to make it more exciting as it goes on, to
change the vocal lines and stuff.
- Mick Jagger,
September 2023
Everybody’s angry today, aren’t they? I did the riff one day
in Mustique and kept it simple, with a couple of
interchangeable parts. Keith said, Very good, Mick. But if
you make the chorus your verse and vice versa, it would be
better. He was right.
- Mick Jagger, c.

I would just whap out the song’s lyrics to get the tempo. What
accents can we put in? You want the chorus to be a different,
slightly different feel from the verse. It’s a lot to do with
danceability and spitting the lyrics out in the right tempo... I
tend to overwrite, and then I take syllables out. You don’t want
the vocals all the time there. You’ve got to leave space. I’m very
aware of that.
- Mick Jagger,
August-September 2023
I kid you not, the
first song we recorded on day one in Los Angeles was Angry.
On the album, you are listening to take two.
- Andrew Watt,
August-September 2023
Angry is classic Stones. As soon as we were running through
it, I heard the bass part in my head and thought: that’s my
bit, baby. It helps that Steve Jordan is an amazing person
to play bass with.
- Keith Richards, c.

Keith... used a '55 TV Yellow Gibson single-cut Les Paul
Junior on Angry and Mess It Up.
- Andrew Watt,
August-September 2023
Good riff!... I like Keith's guitar on Angry.
- Ron Wood,
August-September 2023
It's not a particularly serious song, that one.
- Mick Jagger,
September 2023
It’s a good track to kick off with, I think. And it’s almost
like the first song we recorded. So it kicks along, which is
what you want.
- Mick Jagger,
September 2023
I wasn't thinking about the words, I was just thinking It's a
damn funky riff!
- Keith Richards,
September 2023
I don’t think it is any big statement or anything. It’s just
rock and roll.
