The police in New York City
They chased a boy right through the park
And in a case of mistaken identity
They put a bullet through his heart

Heartbreakers, with your .44
I want to tear your world apart
You heartbreaker with your .44
I want to tear your world apart

A 10 year old girl on the street corner
Sticking needles in her arm
She died in the dirt of an alleyway
Her mother said she had no chance, no chance

Heartbreaker, heartbreaker
She stuck the pins right in her heart
Heartbreaker, pain maker
Stole the love right out of your heart

Oh yeah (doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo) - oh yeah
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)
I want to tear your world apart (Doo doo doo doo doo doo)

Oh yeah (doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo) - oh yeah
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)
I want to tear your world apart (Doo doo doo doo doo doo)

Heartbreaker, heartbreaker
You stole the love right out of my heart
Heartbreaker, heartbreaker
I want to tear that world, I want to tear that world

Ah yeah, ah yeah
I want to tear that world apart
Heartbreaker, heartbreaker
You stole the love right, you stole the love right...

(Doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo) Ah yeah
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)
You shot the kid, he had no chance (Doo doo doo doo doo doo)

Ah yeah (doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo) - ah yeah
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)
You stuck the pins right in her heart (Doo doo doo doo doo doo)

Ah yeah  (doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo) - you heartbreaker
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)
I want to tear that world apart (Doo doo doo doo doo doo)

(Doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo)
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)
(Doo doo doo doo doo doo)

(Doo - doo doo doo doo doo doo)

TrackTalk

I don’t really remember (writing) it that clearly. I remember writing the lyrics, and I think Keith and I contributed to the music thing of it, the chord structure and stuff.

-  Mick Jagger, 2020

Yeah, lovely riff, man. I was very happy to kick that one out. I think I had the riff in my head and it came together in the studio with Billy Preston and Charlie. A lot of tracks really weren’t thought about or worked out much before we actually get in there.

-  Keith Richards, 2020

Heartbreaker has Billy Preston on keyboards, Mick Taylor on wah-wah, and me on bass.

-  Keith Richards, 1973

That was about heavy-handed policing, and someone said to me the other day, That’s funny. That reflects on now. I said, Well, when has policing not been heavy-handed? I mean, that was very much part of the moment.

-  Mick Jagger, 2020
