TrackTalk
Keith and Andy Watt sent it to me when I was in Italy and I went: Like the groove, what on earth am I meant to do with it? Then we were in LA and the top line melody came really quickly.
Mick is very tempo focused. He likes things to be quick and be
uptempo, but also certain things can’t be too quick because he
can’t get the vocal out. I remember they worked out Get
Close. I took a Polaroid while they were doing it. Steve
was playing the drum beat and Mick was trying the vocals, just
to make sure Mick felt there was a pocket he could sing in
properly.
Elton loves to play, and he started as a session musician. Everyone’s a fan of the Rolling Stones. Just like Paul (McCartney), Elton was like, I just fucking played with the Rolling Stones.
I spoke to (Elton John) on Zoom and he said I’ve got to play on some songs. And I went, Hey, join the cue Elton! The thing is it’s not up to me… I said Let’s organize this. Anyway Andrew was already onto him, they’re very close.
